The reason as to why I chose this video clip of Jim Valvano is because how passionate he is. Watching this video clip was truly eye wakening. As one of the first things he mentions in the video is that he does not know how much time he has left. Despite struggling with cancer, Jim is shown to still remain passionate. This allowed for me as a viewer that it is okay if you experience difficult situations. As long as you get back up and continue to fight and be the best person you can be at whatever your career is, you are showing that you are passionate. I believe being passionate over your career is extremely important.

I choose this clip of Michelle Obama because she has been one of my role models since I started college. In this video, Michelle is giving a speech at a university commencement ceremony and her speech is about the true importance once you are out of college. She states that when she was in a position of power to hire someone; she would not ask about a certain grade in a person’s transcript but looked at what type of person they were. If they were a hard worker, reliable, if they had stepped outside of their comfort zone to help others. She states that those are the qualities that move our schools and our country forward.

Being a person who focuses a lot on her grades, her speech really resonates with me. I value my GPA, and work hard to achieve straight A’s every semester. This video helps alleviate the pressure I put on myself most of the time regarding my grades and allows me to understand that I might not always have the perfect GPA and that is okay. The characteristics that make me a good person who is willing to help others are just as important as an A on my school transcript.

The reason I chose this clip of BTS at the UN is not only because BTS is one of my favorite bands, but also because the message they were sending is powerful and inspiring for me. BTS emphasizes the importance of loving yourself and of speaking up for yourself in this speech. Through their music, they shared positive and meaningful messages that helped the younger generation overcome their hardships and grow to love themselves. Especially when Kim Namjoon stated this part of the speech, “No matter Who you are, Where are you from, Your skin color, Your gender identity, Speak for yourself”. This clip inspired me to acknowledge my mistakes that I have made and to learn them in a positive way, to accept myself and others for who they are. No prejudices against anyone. The world needs to grow a big heart to accommodate all the love that exists for everyone. I believe this is a speech that everyone can benefit from learning how to completely acknowledge themselves and cherish themselves. Meaning cherishing yourself enough to progress yourself, to learn from your mistakes, to never give up on yourself, to put yourself in a position to do remarkable things.

I chose this Ted Talk by Angela Lee Duckworth because I liked her perspective on how to achieve success. During her talk, she talks about grit and how being passionate and consistent with your goals is what makes you a successful person. As a former teacher, she realized that learning ability shouldn’t be measured by IQ, but instead by a students’ effort and perseverance. Grit is something that can be developed and help our minds grow and change our mindset. Those who change their mindset into believing that they can accomplish success by sticking to their goals and being passionate about learning will stop believing that failure is a permanent condition. Angela makes a good point towards the end of her video in which she says, “We need to measure whether we’ve been successful and we have to be willing to fail… to start over again with lessons learned.” I found that quote really motivating because it showed me that the key to strive to success is to go through trial and error as much as needed until you accomplish your goals.

I found this video to be motivating as it is a message to women in regards to who they are. JonJorgenson starts the video with a handful of “You are” affirmations. One of the affirmations he says is that you are never too much and you are always enough. He goes on to say how we are more than we can even imagine. We are more than the products we use, the price tags on our clothes, the followers we have on social media, etc. My favorite quote from the video is “Your worth surpasses all earthly things” (1:28). Overall, this video is motivating as it reminds us women of who we truly are. And not only women, but each and every person in the world, can sometimes forget their worth. With all things that happen in the world around us, we sometimes lose sight of our purpose. But, this video reminded me of mine.

This video was chosen because Melissa Butler makes an essential statement. She goes into detail on why women believe they are never enough. Why do we as women constantly push ourselves to be better and struggle to accept who we are naturally? It is widely assumed that one’s beauty influences one’s aptitude in life. There are beauty standards that discriminate against and diminish other women. If a person does not meet a certain beauty standard, they make every effort to do so. This entails altering their natural characteristics. I liked how Melissa emphasized that these ideals affect males as well as women. Height, for example, is frequently associated with attractiveness. Finally, this is a multigenerational, gender-neutral issue. It influences us all to undervalue our own worth. Finally, this is a multigenerational, gender-neutral issue. The reason I chose this video of Robert Downey Jr is not just because he is a great actor but because he has been through his own life challenges. His career has been characterized by critical and popular success in his youth and after some hard times, a resurgence of success later in his career occurred. In this video, Robert Downey Jr. talks about his best life advice. He had been through a 30-year drug addiction that nearly destroyed him but bettered himself in the end. “It’s easy to embrace hopelessness when things seem insurmountable” – RDJ. RDJ’s speech will inspire and motivate you to push the limits, achieve your goals, and never give up even when it feels like everything is crumbling.

Hello everyone! I’m Amelia Castellanos and the clip I decided to share is about Steve Harvey talking about how we should stop thinking negatively. He discusses how our brain thinks both positively and negatively and we are the ones who get to control what we think. One small negative thought will create a wave of more negative thoughts to try and justify that first thought. It will just begin a whole wave of negativity. If you begin your day by thinking positively, a wave of positive thoughts will occur which causes your attitude and mood to change significantly. Thinking positively can make us believe today can be a good day or just make us more grateful for what we have and now dwell on emotions. Our thoughts can affect our everyday lives due to the positivity or negativity of the thoughts that protrude at us and changing the way we think can help change our outlook on life. Personally, there have been many moments in my life that I feel have been ruined by my negative thinking. Trying to become more positive thinking has not only helped me uplift my mood but has also made me think of another way how I shouldn’t just dwell on emotions.

I selected this particular video because it caused me to consider my own actions and how well I am using my time. It is a motivational video since it goes in-depth on living in the now and preventing what-ifs from dominating your thoughts. We frequently second-guess our actions because we are afraid of being rejected or struggling. But we fail to understand that failure also leads to success and development. Due to my constant fear of the future and past, I have severe anxiety. Videos like these help me remember how important it is to prioritize taking care of my current needs. You can only control what is happening in the moment not the past nor the future. You have no influence over the past or the future; only what is happening right now

Hey Everyone I’m Eric Jalli and I chose this video because it talks about how to stay ahead of the rest of the people that you are competing with. Visualizing your goal and learning to commit to it even when the going gets tough. I really love Kobe Bryant’s work ethic, therefore if we don’t know what success looks like how will we be able to attain it. I find this motivating when I feel down or am overwhelmed. No matter what you do if you can taste success you can be great at what you do.

  • Jacqueline Robles

The reason I chose this video is because I found the message that Steve Harvey was conveying very important. In the video he talks about how you have to put in the work to be able to achieve the things that you want. And that nothing will just be handed to you, you have to put in the worth ethic. Steve Harvey also mentions how sometimes to be able to move forward we’re going to have to get our feelings hurt, get disappointed, and even told no, but these experiences are what will help us grow. He also talks about how negativity is what stops most of us from doing things, but we can protect ourselves from that. And to get rid of negativity we have to have gratitude for everything that we already have and are able to do.

  • Sebastian Garde

Hello, my name is Sebastian Garde and for this assignment, I have chosen Stan Lee’s 2017 UCLA Extension Graduation Keynote speech. I chose this speech because Stan Lee was a great man who created stories and characters that entertained and inspired many through many years. I find this video particularly motivational because it showed me the importance of confidence and belief in yourself. The video features Stan Lee telling the story of the creation of Spider-Man to a graduating class at UCLA. Spider-Man is one of the most iconic superheroes of all time, however Lee’s publisher at the time disliked the character. Some complaints that Lee’s publisher had included, they couldn’t use the name Spider-Man because people dislike spiders, teenagers are only supposed to be sidekicks, and superheroes are not supposed to have personal problems. The idea of Spider-Man seemed to go against many of the conventional ideals of superhero characters. Despite Spider-Man being introduced in the last issue of a poorly-selling comic series Spider-Man went on to get his own series and become one of the best-known superheroes of all time. One of the most powerful statements Lee made in this speech was “If you have an idea that you genuinely think is good, don’t let some idiot talk you out of it”. This statement was partially motivational to me because I often second-guess myself when it comes to achieving goals or certain ideas because of other people’s influence. To me, Lee’s statement acts as a reminder that one must have confidence in themselves in order to achieve a goal or see an idea through to fruition. While many others discourage pursuing certain ideas or goals as they seem too outlandish or impossible, it is up to you to believe in that idea or goal and to see it through to the end. Lee in the speech also acknowledges that not every idea or goal will come to fruition, but if it is something you strongly believe in and have confidence in both the idea/goal and yourself you should at least try because at the very least you will have done something you believed in. I find that sentiment very motivational because it is important to recognize that while our ideas or goals may not pan out how we want, the fact that we did something or at least tried to do something that we strongly believed in is still fulfilling. Simply trying to bring an idea to fruition or attempting to achieve a goal is still fulfilling because you did something that you believed in. I believe you can find pride in the fact that you came up with the idea or tried to accomplish something. Overall Stan Lee’s speech is a great motivational piece as the overall message is to have confidence in yourself and to not let the influence of others discourage you from seeing your ideas to fruition or achieving your goals.

The reason I choose this video was that Alex Morgan is one of the people I look up to. She has faced many challenges in her career and is still one of the best female soccer players out there. One thing that she said in the video that impacted me the most is “I am my biggest competitor”. I think this is important because we are always trying to compare ourselves to other people and their accomplishments when we should be seeing what we can do to be better than we were the day before. Overall, I chose this video because I found it quite inspiring.

  • Jacqueline Arteaga

The video that I picked is an ad made by Nike. I decided on this video because it’s motivational. In the ad, they show many people from all walks of life with disadvantages, some of which are disabilities. But another thing that they show is those people with disabilities playing a sport and excelling in their work. It shows that no matter your hardship, you can always overcome and succeed in what you want.

I chose this clip because when I was dealing with lack of self motivation I found a video of Mel Robbins. She speaks about this emergency brake our brains have when making decisions and what she said made a lot of sense to me. We do have this small window of time where we try to make the right decision but our mind talks us out of it. I always delist with this in the mornings, I used to stay in bed until 11am and never make my bed but I started to count to five in the mornings to give myself a sort of warning to get out of bed. When I started to do this I began waking up at 8am everyday and now I even wake up at 6am. I also started to do this when making my bed and now my bed is made the moment I’m out of bed in order to limit the possibility of me getting back into it.

The video that I picked is the training segment from the movie Rocky 3. I chose this video specifically because it gives me chills and always puts me beyond a motivating mood. I feel as if I can never give up and push myself past my limits. Especially with the story in this movie, Rocky seems to find himself out of it and has Apollo train him and get back to his groove. You always need someone to support you and pick you back up to regain your confidence. Watching this training video always motivates myself to go to the gym or go for a run outdoors.

The video I picked is a mix a motivational speeches mostly by Tony Robbins. In theses speeches he talks about many topics on how to motivate and push yourself. One way he does this is he goes through his own journey of self motivations through struggle and depression. He also focuses on appreciating life and changing your mentality. One very powerful quote from one of his speeches is, “It doesn’t have to be that you’re against the wall but it has to be something you’re hungry for because the only difference in people is hunger”.

The video I chose is a combination of motivational speeches from Cristiano Ronaldo. Throughout the many different speeches he gives he explains the judgement of others putting him down, rising up, working hard, and ultimately believing in yourself. Although Ronaldo was first set up for failure he persevered through the hardships and now is one of the most successful people not just in football but in life. He explains that as long as you stay true to yourself you will succeed and achieve your dreams. In the speech my favorite quote was when Ronaldo said, “In my mind I’m always the best I don’t care what people are thinking or what they say, in my mind I’m always the best.” I really enjoyed this quote because it shows the strong mentality he had even though he was doubted by many but stayed motivated and proved everyone wrong because he believed in himself.

The video I picked is one where there are some a few of Denzel Washington’s speeches where he breaks down successes and failures we have as a human being. I really enjoy what he said because a human being we are bound to fail whether we like it or not but the different is that some get back up and keep and going no matter how many times, they have fallen. That is what makes a person different from someone who just quits. We were given with a gift or a set of abilities to be able to do something in this world. This video really resides in me, and I have seen a few other speeches but other people since my father is someone who likes to hear and watch these kinds of videos. My favorite quote from the video must be “Without commitment, you’ll never start, but more importantly, without consistency, you’ll never finish.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBi5U9Xg_EU
I picked this video because it resembles what took me so long to realize for myself. The world you live in all depends on the state of mind you are interpreting everything in. Once I began to realize this I stopped saying negative things or thinking things happen TO me and started to believe that things are happening FOR me. I specifically remember on my 20th birthday I was going to Santa Cruz for the night with friends and on the way up there my tire popped. For whatever reason my car does not carry a spare and the tire repair kit it comes with was not going to help so I needed to call AAA and take it to a tire shop. Turns out the tire shop I took it to was closing and I had to wait until the next morning for them to change it. Luckily one of my friends was driving up later and was able to pick us up so we could make our dinner reservation. During that whole time I did not get mad, I thought what if I was in an accident but instead my tire popped instead to prevent it, and felt so lucky my friend had come up later so she could pick us up. This video reminds me that even at the hardest times, all that matters is how I interpret what is happening to me to either make it a positive or negative experience.

  • Madelyn Garcia

The video I chose is by Nike and I chose this video because its realistic and motivational. The video shows the hardships and triumphs of women. No matter what women do in their respective sports, whether it be a great accomplishment or a slightly negative outburst, there will always be people on the other side discrediting the good and blowing the negative out of proportion. This video highlighted the tribulations of specific athletes, powerful women who are masters at what they do, and how even with all the negatives going against these women, they power through and reach the top. The way the video tells women to push through the adversity in sports can also be applied to not only sport setting but real life settings such as school, work, and social life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWfX5jeF6k4

    Hi everyone,
I chose this video because it is something I did for so long. In high school I often found myself making excuses just like the examples used in this video. I went through a very difficult time my junior year and did not put forth my best effort in a lot of activities I participated in. It took me awhile to realize the only reason things were not getting better was because of myself and all the excuses I was making. I then realized that no one has a perfect life and there are people going through things 100 times worse than I was. I eventually used that as motivation and stopped making excuses for my own actions. I think this video has a bigger message than initially interpreted, once you start thinking of your life and all the things you made excuses for you might question yourself. At the end of the day everything that happens in your life is dependent on you and how to react to situations, if you stay motivated and on track things will continue to prosper and grow, but if you make excuses you will just make things harder on yourself.

I choose this video because I liked the way he talked about everything being motivation for you. It gives me a reason to go harder than I did before. This is a great motivational speech of young athletes who are ever in doubt about anything or if they are in doubt about how to they feel in their sport. This video gives me hope to be the best person and athlete I can possible be, especially where I am right now in life. I know that these words will challenge someone for the better.

I chose this clip “No Excuses” because I can truly relate to this video. All my life when I don’t want to do a certain task I will make excuse and procratinate it, even though I know it isn’t good for me. I think everyone struggles with this a little but I loved this video because it really shows the attitude that we need to have when we feel this way. The clip showed how we can overcome these feelings and even find ways to where we can do better and overachieve this. I believe that you will get no where in life if all you do is make excuses because I think everything is possible if you just truly work hard for it and put your mind to it.
